easyJet is UK based largest passenger carrier based at Luton Airport, London (The Air DB, 2012). The organization has accomplished the market leadership in a very short period of time that could be attributed to the business model which the firm has been pursuing low-cost air travel.  At the end of year 2011, easyJet generated total revenue of 3452 million GBP resulting in operating income of 248.0 million GBP and operating income of 225.12 million GBP.  The earnings per share (EPS) that has been estimated is around 52.5 (easyJet, 2011). The results could be described as superior due to the fact that during the same year most of the passenger carriers have suffered from huge losses. However, easyJet has been very successful in maintaining positive growth rate that could be judged from the fact that the firm operates more than 500 schedule routes in Europe, North Africa and West Asian Airports (easyJet, 2011).
The growth that the firm has been enjoying over the year could also be attributed to the firm's merger and acquisition strategies (easyJet, 2012). For example, in March 1998 when the organization was just three year's old the firm acquired Tea Basle in return for three million Swiss Francs. The organization was then renamed as easyJet Switzerland and has been given the status of easyJet Subsidiary. In the year 1999, easyJet acquired two of its toughest rivals in the UK known as Go and London Stanstad for consideration of 374 GBP (BBC, 2011). These acquisitions essentially added to the growth of the firm as the organization has not realized remarkable growth through such acquisitions, but also resulted in synergy and tremendous cost savings. The savings that the organization has been realizing as a result of its expansions has enabled the firm to outclass its competition by offering its customers the lowest prices in the market. Continuing its expansion plans the firm acquired GB Airways by purchasing its entire share capital from the Bland Group worth 103.5 million GBP (Financial Times, 2008).
